Taking a step back to go foward

When I was working on my English degree, I had a tug-of-war about what to do with my life. I knew I wanted to write. But had yet to figure out what to write about.

I got grief from everyone around me. “You’ll be a starving artist,” or, “So, you want to be a teacher?” I knew I wanted to write fiction just as a hobby. I didn’t specifically want to be a teacher, at the time. So, I began to doubt myself and changed majors.

After trying out courses in my other interests, I felt in my gut to stick with English and that I would figure out something to do. Unfortunately, by this time, I was burnt out on school.

It’s been five years since I’ve taken any classes, but I have figured out what I wanted to do since.
Now that I am in a situation to finally get things going, I realized that a course in copy writing would be a good idea. No matter how much I’ve tried learning on my own.

I had been considering a particular online course/workshop from one of these gurus that offers what I need. After two years of debating, I finally signed up for the course. It should arrive anytime today.

Taking this step back will be for the best. The course is a way to build my portfolio, get the direction I need and receive a certificate when I’m done. I will finally have something solid to show for. would be a good idea. I have read marketing books all along and have learned a lot. But I feel like I should learn from a guru in the industry to show me the way.

When I don’t worry about the pressure of those who tell me what I should do, their advice becomes considered. For me to make my own decisions when they are right for me. I know I won’t regret this.
